It was held on the site of proposed new school and we had a great time! Thank you to the staff and parents for making it a great afternoon! Year 5 and Year 6 Super stars!!Twelve Year 5 and 6 pupils travelled to the Riverside to compete in track events to represent Derwentside in July. The children participated in 60m, 80m, 60m hurdles, 800 m and a 4x100m relay. Jason Maddison, Sam Laycock, Grace Palmer and James Hutchinson all won their heats by coming first in their races meaning they qualified for the finals this afternoon. Jason and Sam went on to come 1st and 2nd and both have qualified to represent Derwentside in July. Both the boys (Connor/Jordan Boyle, Conor Profit, Jason MAddison) and girls (Sam Laycock, Grace Palmer, Nicole Peel, Demi Smith) relay won their heat and the boys came 2nd in the finals so they too will represent Derwentside in July. All children were well behaved and were a credit to the school. We had fabulous weather for our weekend at Westgate Residential Centre in the Durham Dales! We had fun from beginning to end! The Year 6 children held their own election on May 6th!The Year 6 children held their own election in school today! The Red Party won by a large majority! The Yellow Party came second and the Blue Party limped in at third place! Star studded Year 6!Everyone else in school had the day off due to polling day but our intrepid Year 6 came in to school for extra study sessions! Star studded Year 6! Bollywood Dancing Sensation!Class 3 took the Lamp Light Theatre by storm as they performed their Bollywood style dancing extravaganza! Although Mr. Stewart is a Newcastle United fan he was delighted that he could visit our school. Anton Ferdinand was so pleasant and fastdious and everyone enjoyed his visit. He was so polite that he set a good example to everbody in school. His football skills were blistering as he demonstrated in the school yard! Westgate School Camp Residential Weekend October 2009Year 4 children spent a wonderful weekend at Westgate School Camp where they had so much fun learning about the countryside and staying healthy! Free school mealsAs you are probably aware all primary children in County Durham are entitled to free school meals and we are pleased to say that most children in the school are taking advantage of this scheme. If your child is currently still on packed lunch and wishes to have a school dinner then contact the school and speak to Mrs Coldrick at the office.
