My name is Mrs. Kerry and I am the teacher in class 4. Mrs Wallace is the Teaching Assistant who supports me each morning during English and Mathematics.
We aim to make this year an enjoyable experience for all of the children in Class 4 and have many exciting events and activities planned for the year ahead. We are going to work hard but have lots of fun too! As you will appreciate, children are able to progress further with continued support from those around them at home and this we encourage greatly at Greenland Primary School.
If you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me at school. I look forward to working with you and thank you for your support.
In Year 1, we encourage all kinds of reading both at home and school. Reading is everywhere, not just in books – street signs, labels on packets, comics, magazines and leaflets. Please encourage your child to spot words when out and about.
Your child will be provided with a reading book and reading record, this can be returned as often as you like to school (at least once per week), please listen to your child read the book 2 or 3 times to help develop fluency and confidence. Please sign the record so that we know your child has been listened to. You are welcome to comment on your child’s reading, too.
The Phonics Screening Check is taken by all Year One children during the month of June. It gives teachers and parents information on how your child is progressing in phonics. Click on the link below for more information.
This term, P.E. will take place on a Friday afternoon. Please make sure your child has a pair of black or green shorts, a white t-shirt and trainers or plimsolls. In colder weather, children can bring a pair of jogging bottoms. These can be left on your child’s peg and taken home each half term.
We will keep the website and our school Twitter account updated with some of the fun things that we have been doing and learning about over the course of the year! Please ask your child’s teacher if you wish to know more.
